Jenne delivers a unique and powerful vocal quality that often takes her audiences off guard. Her lyrics speak to the human condition, the mystique of the natural world, and creative maladaptation to modern civilization. Jenne gives equal weight to wrapping her chords around--and putting creative spins on--stylistically similar songs by Melanie Safka, Neil Young, Leonard Cohen, Isaac Brock, Conor Oberst and Kristin Hersh, among others.
With a foundation of studies in music theory, she draws on a background of diverse musical explorations from fronting a punk band to teaching history and composition of blues and hip-hop in public schools; performing sacred songs at ceremonies and organizing junkyard bands at youth camps; song-swapping in Kenya and a unique performance alongside Peter Yarrow of Peter, Paul & Mary as part of a creative aging initiative.
A native of Appalachia, North Carolina, Jenne works concurrently as a wilderness-based therapist and holds an MA in Transpersonal Psychology/Ecopsychology from Naropa University and a BA in Comparative Religious Studies/Environmental Studies from Guilford College.
