music tour gets its wings (Dec 17, 2010)
The sleek brown Pegasus that so vividly presented itself to me in a dream meadow just before I departed Asheville has swiftly and with seamless grace delivered my brother and I into the majestic arms of the Pacific Northwest. We passed so easily through the eye of a needle traversing the slush of Vail Pass in the Colorado Rockies that spoke of ice & snow the day previous and portended ice & snow to come the day after. Though the Rockies were astounding, the highlight of the 44-hour drive was, hands-down, the otherworldly scape of eastern Oregon lightly blanketed in snow. The combination of bright yellow tundra grasses bursting through pure white snow on rolling hills as far as the eye could see, set against a soft, easter blue sky actually cured my headache from the intense elevation changes. It was so easy to look at, so foreign and satiating a color palette. We felt as though we had driven our way to another planet entirely. This followed by winding our way through the humbling valleys of Montana-like stretches of towering green balds, rocky precipices and distant ranges of sharp snow-capped mountains to the northeast. Indescribable, but worth the try anyhow.
I feel good. Serene. Hopeful. Secure. My first gig of the tour is tonight. Have had to put in some significant time in Drury Inn (the concept, not the hotel) playing my own agent which has kept me quite cornered in Portland thus far ... but, next week I will have all the time in the world to do some hiking and general exploring and visiting of Portland folk and some good sit-down at the song-writing easel.
Big love & humble gratitude ~
